Welcome

Dr. Keren Sofer

I believe the path to a more compassionate world starts with building a bridge to authentic connection—allowing us to feel truly seen and worthy of belonging. When that bridge collapses into disconnection, shame, and isolation, knowing how to recognize the weak spots and rebuild that sturdiness is essential.

For the past two decades, I have worked at the intersection of deep clinical practice and public advocacy. Whether I am working with a couple in my Philadelphia office, providing supervision or teaching graduate students, my mission is to help people move from reflexive existing to reflective living.

A Relational and Shame Informed Approach

I provide a roadmap for moving from confusion to compassionate engagement, helping both individuals, fellow clinicians and groups navigate the “clinical impasses” that keep us stuck.

Since 2019, I have incorporated the application of Shame Theory with relational approaches. I view shame not as just one of many affects that serves a range of functions, but as a complex phenomenon designed to signal when our connections with important others or the group are shaky. When understood and managed effectively, addressing shame can become a gateway to profound relational health.
